Post Turkey coma

Hi gang, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my wonderful family, friends, and life. One of the best years of my life, even with the last month’s expenses. I’m really looking forward to the Holidays, too. Now, if only I could figure out how to get to Japan again…. in the meantime, here’s some pics!

Maschinen Krieger Tornado

This is the 1/20th scale Rainbow Egg kit of the Tornado, Designed by Kow Yokoyama, as seen in the mid 1980s in SF3D articles published by Hobby Japan. Made from resin, wires, and tubing, the Tornado is a funky design, not often seen in Maschinen Krieger collections. This was a lot of fun to make, and I’m now painting a “Winter version” of the Tornado – look for that gallery soon.

Ralph McQuarrie X-Wing Fighter in “Studio Scale”

This is an X-Wing Fighter build from a kit by REL (Sovereign Replicas), with electronics by Lightbenders. I worked with them to spec out a cool LED solution for the model, as REL was kind enough to master the kit with lighting in mind. This particular design is the “ptototype design” painted by Ralph McQuarrie prior to the models being fabricated in late 1975.

Chicken a la Persia

Last night I made chicken kebabs, grilled veggies, and served it with Basmati rice with a little saffron and butter. It was insane. Whiled away the evening in the studio, making models.

From Asia to Italy

This week I made chicken lettuce wraps, similar to what you can get at PF Changs as an appetizer. It was pretty labor intensive, as I had to make a marinade, cook the chicken, dice the chicken and water chestnuts, re-cook that in a sauce, make a dipping sauce, and prepare the rice (mung?) noodles. It paid off though! Then, last night I made pizza from scratch. Made the dough in our sexy red Kitchenaid mixer, let it rise for an hour, punched it out, sautéed diced tomatoes with fennel and a couple of spices, and mixed fresh mozzarella from Mastellone’s Deli with the remainder of our fresh basil from the now-bald plant, Basil, you grew and served us well in 2010. The pizza was crazy-delicious.

Halloween 2010

Halloween 2010 was a blast. We had a slightly anemic amount of trick or treaters, but the Wynns came over and we all enjoyed good food, which was great fun! I made chili & Asian roasted Brussels Sprouts, Lisa made cornbread, Jane made butternut squash, and we all enjoyed some sweet wine! Then, we passed out candy and Tom wore a gorilla suit with skull mask to scare some kids, heh. At the end of the evening, Lisa and I watched The Walking Dead!!!
