Kopi Luwak – the Civet’s “Gift” to humanity.

Today we went to Zeke’s Coffee down the street and tried Kopi Luwak, which is the coffee made from those beans collected from Civet poop. Yep – Cat Shit Coffee™!

Catching up

Hi gang, it’s been a very gratifying and hectic Summer. The month of October is proving to be a great month for print and me – I have articles about the Blade Runner Blimp in Sci-Fi Fantasy Modeler (I got the cover!!!), Geek Magazine (on news stands now), and Tested. My Schenkel build is also in November’s Hobby Japan magazine! But what about the rest of August and September, you say? Well, Lisa and I spent a week at Family Point, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It’s a wonderful place deep in the “no cell service” wildlife-filled Maryland waterfront, and it’s always relaxing. We also took a trip to Philadelphia for the day, and saw Dead Can Dance play a show, took in the historical US sights, and ate a lot of really good food at Chifa, a restaurant owned by Iron Chef Garces. Most recently, we got our front sidewalk replaced. Here’s the slideshow…

Füd

Spent a stellar evening at Vin 909 in Annapolis with Alex Manfredona, Morgan Smith, and Andrew Deimel. Alex owns and operates this amazing wine café in the heart of Eastport in Annapolis, and the food was top notch. Andrew and I have been getting into the wide world of whiskey and scotch in our late 30s, and we swapped some liquor. He blew me away with 24 sample bottles!! I am excited to try each one, and discover some new loves. Talking with the guys until late on a Tuesday evening was a pure joy, and it was really wonderful to know we can fall into easy and enthusiastic conversations after years of not seeing one another, like in the case of Morgan and myself. Glad you guys are in my life, and thanks again for a great evening, fellas!!

Also, last night I made a crazy delicious simple dinner of marinated chicken (Cambodian style, then grilled) and salad. The new camera is allowing me to take some amazing photographs!!

BaltiMa.K. Meat Mk.I

Today we had a little impromptu Maschinen Krieger gathering! Futch and his daughter were in the neighborhood, so Arno came up too. We had a great amount of fun chatting about the hobby that brought us together and shared some tips and tricks, did a half-ass Laser Cutter demo, went into the city for lunch and for a little local flavor, and relaxed in the cool AC. Arno is on his way home now, and the remaining casualties from the epic day are currently putting as much distance between dinner and anything else… it was pretty epic. I made hamburgers with a tequila reduction glaze, and Futch made these insanely addictive Jalapeño Poppers. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday! Thanks, gang! Thanks for everything you do, Lisa!

Shackleton!

Mackinlay’s Shackleton Whisky Blend Replica – acquired!  This is a recreation of the whisky that Ernest Shackleton took on his South Pole expedition in 1907, which sat undisturbed for 100 years! “Recreated by the legendary tastebuds of Richard Patterson after two cases were discovered in the ice in 2007.”
